Maui features resorts for all styles and budgets of travel, whether you're looking for an adults-only resort to celebrate your honeymoon or a kid-focused property for a multigenerational family vacation. Visitors will find that most of the resorts are clustered around the communities of Kaanapali, on the island's West Coast, and Wailea in South Maui.

Wailea is a swank community with multiple resorts and dining options, along with five golden beaches and a golf course set on 1,500 beautifully landscaped acres. There are a few more luxury resorts in ritzy Kapalua in northwest Maui, like the beautiful Montage Kapalua Bay.

Maui is a year-round vacation destination but tourism really spikes in the summer months, around the Christmas holidays, and into the cold North American winters, making June through August and December through February some of the most expensive times to visit. To save on lodging visit in the spring or fall, when the weather is still nice but the crowds are less, and you can get better deals on hotels and resorts.

The 72 suites are scattered around the property in groups of four and all offer separate sleeping and living areas with kitchenettes.

The decor features polished wood floors and marine-themed art on neutral hued walls. The stone-tiled bathrooms here are particularly impressive, with deep soaking tubs and giant rain showers.

On-site amenities include a pool with private cabanas. There is also a romantic restaurant that serves up fresh, local, and organic fare with produce from farms and orchards in Maui, including one located on the hotel grounds. The menu is very much farm-to-table and can change daily based upon what is available.

The best rooms and suites have ocean views, but some of the least expensive offer only views of the parking lodge, so know what you are booking. Beyond the rooms are three on-site restaurants, including the only edition of Wolfgang Puck's Spago in Hawaii. There is also a pool and a large spa.

The all-inclusive plan here covers meals and spa treatments, and on-site amenities to keep you distracted include a lava rock Jacuzzi and ukulele and lei-making classes, among other activities.

The 215 individually owned condos at the Aston Mahana are another option in Kaanapali, especially if other places are booked. Located on Honokowai Point, the family friendly property features condos of varying sizes, from studios to two-bedrooms.

All have full kitchens and ocean views, and some have floor-to-ceiling windows, but the quality of decor in each condo varies as they each have different owners. There is also no on-site restaurant. That said, there is direct beach access, a small swimming pool, hot tub, and barbecue grills.

The recent recipient of a multimillion-dollar overhaul, the Kā'anapali Beach Hotel sits on the beach by the same moniker. The renovation project included redesigning two wings and upgrading the rooms into modern affairs featuring a mix of Western and traditional Hawaiian decor. Rooms also come with fridges and furnished balconies. Many have direct ocean views from floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors.

There is also a new restaurant right on the oceanfront called Haihu. It serves creative island fare and features a large al fresco dining space. The 3-star hotel is located just a short walk from many other dining options, as well as lots of shops and recreational activities.

The hotel is family friendly, and there are daily Hawaiian cultural activities on offer. Babysitting can also be arranged.

Other on-site amenities include a swimming pool with sun-loungers and umbrellas. If you are traveling with a dog, the hotel is pet friendly.

The 163 rooms, studios, and suites all feature some type of ocean view, along with island decor. Away from the rooms, on-site amenities include four swimming pools, two hot tubs, and a restaurant right on the beach. It is also located adjacent to a golf course.
