At the far end of Mactan Island, Plantation Bay Resort and Spa sits on 27 acres of sprawling, manicured grounds. It has a small beachfront area, and much of the resort was designed to resemble the natural environs, with freshwater pools and saltwater lagoons for swimming surrounded by sand. The resort is about 30 minutes from the airport and offers free transfers.

There are around 250 rooms and suites in a variety of configurations. Some feel dated, but others are quite nice, including an overwater Riverboat Suite. Built on stilts over the lagoon, it has two bedrooms and an al fresco living room and can sleep up to eight people.

Besides the beach and numerous pools, there is plenty to keep you busy on the grounds. For kids, there are indoor and outdoor play areas including a sandbox-style playground. There's also a putting green, archery area, and climbing wall, which are free for guests to use.
