Known for years as the Spice Island, the Caribbean island of Grenada is an excellent vacation destination and home to beautiful resorts. Only a few hours from most southern and eastern U.S. cities, the island still grows and exports spices like nutmeg, cloves, vanilla, cinnamon, and ginger.

Most resorts in Grenada are on the southwest coast of the island, around the capital city of St. George's. Other popular beach resort areas include Grand Anse, Point Salines, and Lance Aux Epines.

Dining options focus on two places: Rhodes, a fine-dining restaurant, and the Beach Club. You can dine on the terrace at the Beach Club, or they will set up a meal for you on the beach. The resort offers a free shuttle service to get you here and has its own area of the beach with the usual range of free, non-motorized water sports. The resort has some amazing swimming pools, including several river pools with waterfalls. These come right up to some of the accommodations, and others include little living-room islands, part of the rooms and suites. Some of the suites have their own private infinity-edge spa pools.

For those looking for an alternative to the more corporate beachfront resorts, Blue Horizons Garden Resort offers a more eco-friendly way to experience Grenada. It's on a green hillside overlooking Grand Anse beach and is a group of 32 cottage-style accommodations.

Bigger than hotel rooms, each one-bedroom or studio unit has a living area and its own kitchenette. They have either ocean or garden views.

The whole property is an almost seven-acre oasis of tropical gardens – your own private estate to explore. It's close to the Grand Anse town area and a 10-minute walk to the beach.

The resort offers free use of non-motorized water sports, like rafts, boogie boards, and kayaks, and will set you up with beach towels and a chaise lounge.

At the resort, there's a nice-sized freshwater pool; a small spa; and a creole restaurant, serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. There's also a poolside grill serving lunch and dinner. If you want to stay in your cottage, room service is available as well.
